The First Few Days....
Published on Sep 13, 2017 16:55

Welcome back everyone ~ as it looks, our St. Nicholas students are becoming familiar with routines after a summer vacation.  Thank you to all parents, guardians, and staff for making our first few days so successful for our children.

There are some items of information I would like to share with you:

First - our school enrolment was greater than projected, and so many of you noticed that some of our classes are quite large and don't meet Ministry of Education guidelines for class sizes.  This meant that conversations needed to be had at the Board Office level; those conversations have now confirmed that we will be reorganizing our classrooms and hiring a teacher to meet class size expectations.  This process has already begun, and students who are impacted by this change will receive a letter to take home to explain the change.  Please know that this is wonderful news for SMCDSB and Catholic Education ~ as so many families have made a distinct choice to share a Catholic school education for their children.

Second - The Meet the Teacher evening will be on Thursday, September 28 from 5:30-7:00pm.  Pizza orders will come home this Friday, and they will be available in the gymnasium along with tables for you to sit and enjoy a quick meal with your family, and then you can take the opportunity to meet your child(ren)'s teacher(s) and see their classrooms.  I look forward to greeting returning and new families of St. Nicholas!

Third - The first school Mass will be held here at the school in the gymnasium on Wednesday, September 27th at 10am.  Mrs. Hussey's class will take the leadership role in preparing this Mass for us and Father Mark will be our celebrant!  Please come join us!

Next.....Our first Good News Assembly will be on Thursday, September 28 at 9:40am.  Mrs. Greene's class will take the leadership role for this celebration, and highlight the virtue/value of LOVE!  Invitations to parents/guardians of students who will be celebrated will be coming out soon.

.....the first Professional Development Day will be on Friday, September 29.

Please note - we have a number of anaphylactic allergies in our school community. We strive to be aware and accommodate all, to ensure a safe learning and working environment.  We ask that NO food be sent to the school for special birthday celebrations - instead if you wish, you can send dollar store pencils/erasers if required.  Children are not to share their lunches or snacks, so please ensure to have these conversations at home to support our messaging here at school.  Those that visit, please ensure that you are free of scent (detergents, perfumes, colognes, antiperspirants, etc.)  Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

.....our September Newsletter will be out shortly with more important information contained within.

Thank you,
Christine Toth
